Down the Memory Lane : 90’s Games and Activities

I was born in the late 80s, and so I spent my younger days without the internet, cellphones, computers, and other modern necessities. Let me take you to the games and activities I used to do.
When we hear the words, “The 90s are the best time to live,” it certainly was! Well, at least for me! It was the last decade before the millennium when technology had advanced. I got to play the games my parents and grandparents used to play, and I was also ready to embrace modern technology. I got to experience both worlds in their own stark ways. Now let me tell you about some of the traditional games.
Bola Bekel. In America, it’s called Jacks. It’s a game with a small bouncy ball and several metal tokens. In Indonesia, we play it by throwing the ball into the air, and while the ball is in the air, we grab the metal token, and then grab the ball after it bounces once with the same hand we grab the metal token. The game is played by several people sitting on the floor, taking turns.

Congklak. In English, it’s known as Mancala. This game is usually played by 2 people using a wooden board with 16 holes in it and a lot of beans. According to some people, this game might be the oldest board game in the world, dating back to 6000 BCE. This game is very stimulating because it requires calculation, strategy, and skill.

These 2 games were the popular traditional games in the 90s, but let’s also not forget about the rise of Playstation games! What about you? What games did you play the most when you were little?
