Did you know? Series 2

Correnspondent

In 2016, 18-year-old Shreya Siddanagowder lost both arms below the elbows in an accident. In a 13-hour transplant process on March 7, 2017, a team of 20 surgeons and 16 anesthesiologists worked on her, according to the Indian Express.

A young man, age 21, tragically lost his life in a bike accident and his hands were donated to her. Throughout the subsequent year and a half, Siddanagowder’s motor control of her arms and hands, which had been poorer before the transplant, rapidly improved as a result of physical therapy. Although the donor had a darker complexion than Siddanagowder, the skin on her new limbs was initially darker. Nevertheless, the skin eventually lightened, such that they now match Siddanagowder’s skin tone more closely!
